The Hotchkis Gallery, a labor of love for the wife & wife duo of Celebrity Floral Designer and Christie's Auction House Alum, Carey Hotchkis & Art World Legacy, Tara Hotchkis.
Upon Graduating from UC Berkeley, Carey left for Europe and started on a journey that would change her life. Falling in love with the rich history offered by the world's cultural capitals, Carey knew she had found her calling. Carey spent years working in 19th Century European Paintings & Contemporary Art Sales at Christie's Auction House in both New York and London. Carey dreamed of one day returning home to Los Angeles and opening a gallery of her own. She wanted the opportunity to work with emerging artists; to develop, guide and nurture their careers.
Tara is a third generation Art Curator, following in the footsteps of her Father, Internationally Acclaimed Artist, Manfred H Kuhnert, and Grandmother, Baroness Gertrude Kob Von Urbanstadt, a renowned portrait artist and graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts Dresden. Tara was brought up in the art business; her family founded the Kuhnert Gallery in Los Angeles, CA in 1963. In 1980, her father opened his private studio in the Art Community of Laguna Beach, CA. Tara spent many afternoons painting in her father's studio. Her love for art and photography flourished in this nurturing environment and continued at the University of California, Irvine. Tara shares Carey's passion for working with emerging artists and guiding their careers to the next level. "I love art and I love beauty, being fortunate enough to have an art gallery of my own is a dream come true; it enables me to share my love of art & beauty with the world."
Carey and Tara are both heavily involved with the children's art organization, PS ARTS, funding underserved arts programs in Los Angeles public schools. Carey sits on the Board of Directors for PS ARTS, as well as the Hotchkis Foundation. Carey & Tara are both members of the Los Angeles County Museum of Arts Decorative Arts & Design Council, currently serve as Ambassadors for Young Literati, supporting literacy programs provided by the Los Angeles Public Library, support Children's Hospital Los Angeles, the Huntington Library in Pasadena, the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, MOCA and the Broad Museum.
